  1. Gourmet is a well-established brand. I think that its publisher erred, because the good will of that name dissipates through the cessation of publication. A better approach would have kept Gourmet as a name in a different, less costly format.

    I think you raise a very good point in the second half–will "new media" be able to generate fandoms which endure for decades the way that the old networks could?

  2. It's interesting. I was talking with Nora's CBC colleague, Dan Misener, and he told me that he thought the age of the canon was dead. He doesn't think that there is the need anymore for the seminal films, mags, cultural touchstones that we once had. That makes me very sad. An age where there is no curation. I don't know if that's going to make for a more enlightened civilization.

    It only makes sense to me that there is a class of folks who make their living doing that for the rest of us. How can everyone make the time to curate their collections with all of the pressures we have and things we must do? Kids, jobs, housework, commute etc….Or maybe it's just sour grapes because I am one of the turfed.
