    I agree that the analogy is to the journalism of the past. I think of 19th C. journalism, when it was not clear that newspapers could be a paying proposition. The writing was very lowest common denominator until a proof-of-concept of the commercial proposition could be shown. Then journalistic standards arose. Similarly, the yellow journalism of "left v. right" of a by-gone day seems to be the way to web media to get views now, because views sell and polarized media generates views. I am not so much concerned by this as in awe of how past patterns repeat in new media.

    I admire that Apple generates so many apps for their system. Yet

    the potent combination of a closed-source provider and censorship

    is a bit troubling. It's a tasty kool-aid indeed, but I do think that it's not only nanny-ism but ultimately disquieting for a free press as well as

    free choices.
