New IoT Botnet and AI for Fashion

Hi again! On this episode, Cathi Bond talks about Satori, a new bit of malware that, like Mirai before it, can take control of internet- connected household devices and routers and harness them for botnets (via Technology Review). Nora Young mentions this Spark interview with Finn Brunton on the black market for botnets. Meanwhile, Nora talks about this report on how fashion is starting to use the data analytics power of AI in design. The idea is that designers can query things like, for example, "what's emerging as the hot new colour palette?" 1. I think having something that helps see creative trends would be nice but I always think of Steve Jobs who said people don’t know what they want! And Cathi – there are still people who read literature! I just re-read Night Town again 🙂

    • I think that was one of the points Malcolm Gladwell made in…was it Blink? About the Aeron office chair and how no one liked it at first because it was different/new, and now everyone loves it.

  2. Scott thank you SO much. Your comment came at a most fortuitous time for me. I've been seriously questioning the validity of writing any more fiction if few folks even bother picking up a book. But to think you've read mind twice. Wow! That's a kick in the pants I needed. A "gee I'm not beavering away in a tower for nothing" moment. So I thank you very very much. And thanks for listening to the podcast. It's a real labour of love for Nora and me. Maybe that's the secret of happiness. Cathi
