  1. Thanks for featuring my iPad Bagpipes app!

    Cheers!

    Michael

  2. Yes, you can plug it into headphones, or a 1000 watt amplifier. 🙂

  3. Happy anniversary!

I'm so proud that you've kept going after all these years.

You're true inspiration for podfaders like us.

    Slainte!

  4. Thanks guys! We still have a good time doing it and you know what? In an age and at an age when you don't just hang out for the sake of hanging out anymore, the podcast gives Nora and I a good excuse to get together, record some stuff and then have dinner. I can only speak for myself, but I really enjoy it and it keeps us on our toes.

  5. Thanks, Dave! I still really enjoy it too. We've had bouts of the podfades, but we've always come back from the brink!

  6. When did we fade? When goddamn it? When? 🙂

  7. Ladies,

Let me add my congratulations on five wonderful years. I've only been listening for the last couple, since a Canadian friend of mine asked incredulously, "what do you MEAN you don't know who Nora Young is?" At that point, the only CBC broadcaster I knew was Barbara Budd. Since she's gone, I guess I'm back to one again 🙂

Regarding the beer, the high alcohol levels are really not much more than a marketing gimmick. Most serious beer people will top out in the 10-12% range with the Imperial Stouts and Barleywines. There's a certain amount of novelty in something like Sam Adams's Utopias (27% alcohol), but at $130 or more for a 24 oz (700ml) bottle, most people aren't going to buy a six pack. And since the amount of alcohol in one bottle of Utopias is equal to a 12-pack of 4.5% "normal" beer, I'm guessing most people aren't going to drink a whole one 🙂

Thanks again for continuing to do the Sniffer. It's one of a very small handful of podcasts I listen to these days.

  8. Ha! John, thanks for the kind words. Sometimes, when you're podcasting, it can feel like you're just talking to yourself, so it's hugely encouraging to hear from someone who listens.

WRT the high alcohol beer and stunts, did you see this the other day? The End of History beer: it's got 55% alcohol, costs $750, and comes in a dead animal carcass. Stunt indeed! http://www.nydailynews.com/money/2010/07/22/2010-

  9. Yes, an email to that story went around my beer club a couple days ago, and there was also a reference to high alcohol beer in this month's Wired. I think I'll stick with my paltry pint of the low-test stuff.

I'm sure you have a multitude of listeners. What I really like about the Sniffer is that you don't ramble on and on about a topic. The fast-paced format gives me a little technology perspective snack that won't spoil my dinner. You spend enough time to cover the idea, and then move on.

As a blogger and webcaster, I've always been amazed that anyone reads or listens to the stuff I do, but I guess there's room for everyone out on the long tail.
